"Small Town Murder Songs"

“An aging cop's newly reformed life unravels when he is thrust into a murder investigation in an Ontario Mennonite town and discovers that the prime suspect is his ex-wife's new beau.”

“Small Town Murder Songs” is the latest from director Ed Gass-Donnelly and after my first viewing of this film I was stoked. It’s quiet, not a lot of music and therefore lots of room for sound effects, but it’s quiet so not really. Basically you have nowhere to hide as a sound designer and picking the right sounds becomes extremely important. You rely heavily on the production track and try to make everything feel as natural as possible but it’s tricky and subtle work.

Nelson Ferreira of Sound Dogs put our crew together as he had supervised Ed’s first film “This Beautiful City” but was unable to do “Small Town”. It ended up being Tyler Whitham and myself supervising, Dashen Naidoo assisting, and our two mixers Keith Elliott, and Jason Perreira.
